He outlines the way Japanese martial arts, especially Judo and Kendo was increasingly sportified as it developed internationally. For traditionalists, the spiritual aspects of the Budo were still important. As an example Professor Uozumi discusses the international interest in Kyudo or Japanese archery that occurred after the book Zen in the Art of Archery was published.
